This is so true. I also like Viktor Frankl's version of this from the classic Man's Search for Meaning. “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way… Any attempt at fighting the camp’s psychopathological or psychohygienic methods had to aim at giving him inner strength by pointing out to him a future goal to which he could look forward.”
